The Virginian

The Virginian:

Since 1911 “The Historic Virginian Hotel” has been the “gathering place” in southern Wyoming for over 100 years.  Set in Medicine Bow, Wyoming it was the biggest hotel between Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah and is registered as a National Historic Landmark.
 
The old western hospitality has remained the same over the years and people are still drawn to this fascinating hotel. Today’s hotel lodging consists of sixteen antique sleeping rooms, four antique suites, twelve motel rooms, our recent addition, The Scotts’ Cedar Street Addition with 4 sleeping rooms, and the newest addition to the Historic Virginian Hotel The Virginian Motel consisting of 20 motel rooms. Additional features include the Eating House, “Back 40”, the Shilo Saloon, the Owen Wister dining room, and the famed Owen Wister Suite.
 
The “Historic Virginian Hotel” derives its name from the classic novel by Owen Wister. First published in 1902 The Virginian has been made into three movies, a TV series, and has established the prototype for all westerns to this day.

Reported Paranormal Activity:

Over its history, there were a few shootings, many romances, many good times shared among people at this hotel.  A few dedicated owners, who strove to find ways to keep the hotel open.  The restless entities who now stay as unpaid guests could fall into any of the above categories.  They could be shooting victims or owners who still have a need to keep a watchful eye on the living. 

More than one entity makes The Virginian Hotel its home. Many cold spots are felt in various parts of the hotel. Apparitions of entities have appeared in front of the living and have been spotted out of the corner of the eye of some witnesses. Music from another era is sometimes heard. One particular entity likes to visit the rooms and  “help” in the restaurant – perhaps a former employee or owner.  Current staff members report the phenomena of various items being moved. Sometimes finding things in odd places. Eyewitnesses and paranormal specialists agree that entities are calling The Virginian Hotel their after-life home.

Our Paranormal Investigation:

We investigated this hotel on September 16, 2013. The hotel employees were very helpful and showed us all around the hotel and around the town of Medicine Bow, WY.
